Non-Executive Director - Thirteen Homes

Role: Board Director - Thirteen Homes Board

Term: Maximum of six years subject to annual review

Responsible to: Chair of Thirteen Homes Board

Time commitment: Approx 37 hours p.a. (plus reading and travelling time)

Remuneration: £4,000 p.a.

Summary

Sharing responsibility for Board decisions in determining the strategic direction of Thirteen Homes, attending and participating at Board meetings and events, and acting in the interests of Thirteen as a whole. Ensuring the development and delivery of Thirteen Homes’ and Gus Robinson Developments’ business plans and objectives, accepting accountability and the concept and reality of collective responsibility.

Accountablilities

  • Act within the legal duties required of a Board Director; including the duty to exercise all reasonable care, skill and independent judgement
  • Act as an ambassador and take opportunities to promote, support and represent the work of the company and Thirteen in a positive manner
  • Demonstrate exceptional professionalism, probity, and personal integrity, upholding Thirteen’s Values and Code of Conduct
  • Apply individual skills and experience to Board business
  • Contribute strategically and constructively to debate; sharing accountability and responsibility for Board decisions and respecting the views of others
  • Develop and maintain positive and supportive relationships with the Chair and other Board Directors, working with them to ensure discussions and decisions are constructive and for the benefit of the company and Thirteen
  • Seek assurance and examine the performance and financial viability of Thirteen Homes and Gus Robinson Developments to ensure they remain financially viable, deliver value for money, and that key risks are identified and mitigated to the fullest extent possible
  • Ensure the continued improvement of Thirteen Homes and Gus Robinson Developments
  • Ensure attendance at, and preparation for, all meetings and events
  • Take responsibility for own performance and personal development, including attendance at development and training events

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of issues within the social housing sector, or related business areas
  • Proven strategic leadership qualities including sound judgement and decision making
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and mediation skills
  • Excellent analytical skills

A strong understanding of:

  • Residential development and sales
  • Regeneration activities
  • The external factors that can impact on Board decisions

An ability to:

  • Understand and monitor the viability, performance and effectiveness of schemes to ensure the delivery of Thirteen Homes’ and Gus Robinson Developments’ Business Plans and value for money
  • Identify risks and ensure effective risk management
  • Ensure that all information gained as a board director is treated in confidence

Performance Measures

  • Annual appraisal by Chair of Thirteen Homes Board
  • Internal and external observation and evaluation of Board
